The 2025 BPAM brings global performances to local stages
The 2025 Busan International Performing Arts Market will take place from Sept. 24 to 28 at venues citywide.
BPAM is an international festival and performance distribution market that introduces domestic and international performing arts, offering a shared experience for artists, industry professionals, citizens and tourists alike.
Now in its third year, BPAM has been essential in transforming Busan into an international performing arts hub.
Under the slogan “A New Wave of Performing Arts,” BPAM will showcase over 100 works across multiple genres, including theater, dance and music. Performances are divided into five categories: BPAM Choice, BPAM Showcase, BPAM Wave, BPAM Street and BPAM Link.
BPAM Choice features four full-length performances officially invited and selected by the festival’s artistic directors:
▲ “Son, Mother and Father Sitting at the Table in Silence for a Long Time”: Presented by the Zagreb Youth Theatre from Croatia, the play examines the impossible choice, and consequences, a family must make in an apocalyptic future.
▲ “Pharsalia”: Presented by Spanish choreographer Antonio Ruz, this dance performance explores the nature of war and asks the question, “Can beauty be found in the chaos of conflict?”
▲ “Jangdansori”: Presented by Insoo Kim and the Gugak Jazz Society, this music performance combines traditional Korean instruments, a jazz trio, dance and pansori, traditional Korean musical storytelling.
▲ “Bill’s 44th”: Presented by American puppeteers Dorothy James and Andy Manzuck, “Bill’s 44th” is a wordless, comedic puppet show for adults. Selected as a New York Times Critic’s Pick, the show has been praised for being “buoyant, mesmerizing and joy-inducing.”
BPAM Showcase features 22 officially invited works from around the world. The other programs, Wave, Street and Link, introduce around 70 notable works from Korea and abroad.
Tickets are available for purchase on the official BPAM website. Choice performances are 20,000 won, while other shows range from 3,000 to 5,000 won.
