Busan Heritage Night dives deep into the city’s history
Busan will host a special festival, called the 2023 Busan Heritage Night, commemorating the city's history as once being known as “the City of Refugees.”
The festival will take place from Aug. 18 to 19 at the Busan Modern and Contemporary History Museum and Eurari Square. It aims to remind people of the significant historical role Busan played as the country’s provisional capital for 1,023 days during the Korean War from 1950 to 1953.
Organized into eight themes covering culture, food, history, and accommodation in Busan during that period, the festival follows the storyline of the imaginary characters Geumsoon and her brother Geumdong. The siblings were separated during the evacuation of Seoul and are now trying to reunite in Busan. Visitors can immerse themselves in the siblings’ story while enjoying various cultural and historical events.
Among the festival's attractions are “Back to 1023,” a reproduction of Busan in 1950, the “1023 Flea Market,” where you can purchase local merchandise at Eurari Square, and the “1023 Moonlight Market (달빛장터),” a food market featuring local cuisine at the government headquarters of the temporary capital in Busan (임시수도정부청사).
