This month, we introduce the story of Lilly Mueller from Germany.

Flying High
I still remember the first time that I found this place. Like a dream stuck in my head. It was early July if I recall correctly. On this afternoon the sun was burning mercilessly and seagulls screeched over my head while a fishy stench penetrated my nose. Jagalchi was busy as ever. Old ladies were yelling and visitors with black and grey hair sat in red and blue plastic chairs, pouring soju with heavy hands.
I had been to this market on countless aimless days. People-watching, visitors and laborers alike, was what gave these days their purpose. Today was different. My glance suddenly came across a bridge I had never crossed before. Of course I had heard of the island beyond them. I knew Yeong-Do as a hub for artists, exhibitions and cafes. As the place where Busan’s ships go to sleep.
Suddenly something dragged me to the next best bus stop. Jumping on number 6 I waited patiently to pass Lotte Dpt. Store and finally the bridge.
Opening the window, the salty ocean air blew into my face and, while crossing the river, I felt on top of the world. Entering Yeong-Do felt like travelling back in time. Elderly people dressed in Hanbok, old alleyways and the huge market, bustling despite the heat, caught my eye. Fascinated by this new world, I let myself be chauffeured through main and side streets, until the we took a sharp turn and suddenly the coast opened-up in front of me. Blue waves, glistening in the sunlight, fishing roads strapped tightly to rocks surrounded by endless sea and tiny wooden boats 20 meters below me appeared.
I was caught in a dream. And I never wanted to wake up again. My heartbeat slowed and I felt myself flying high above the waves.
