[My Busan Story] Where the Sea Feels Like Home

"My Busan Story" is a special series by Busan's English-language newspaper, inviting foreign residents to share their unique perspectives on life in the city. From unforgettable experiences and travel episodes to small everyday joys, these stories highlight the diverse voices that make Busan feel like home. This month, we introduce the story of Corrales Suarez Laura Marcela from Colombia.

Where the Sea Feels Like Home

I first came to Busan as a tourist in January 2023. I only stayed for four days, but that was enough to fall in love with the city. I regretted not staying longer, especially since I had to return to my home country soon after. Coming from a coastal city in Colombia, I’ve always lived close to the sea. Arriving in Busan gave me thecomforting feeling of being back home. It was also my first time experiencing winter, and I was having a hard time with the cold in Seoul. But in Busan, the weather felt milder, which was one of the first things that made me like the city. Busan is full of magical corners and breathtaking views. Compared to Seoul, it felt less crowded but offered even more things to do. That’s why I made the decision to come back—not just to visit, but to live.

Now, I live and study in Busan, and I always say I wouldn’t trade this city for any other. It has multiple beaches, each with its own unique vibe, and most are less than an hour away no matter where you are in the city. If I need a mental break, I can go hiking on one of Busan’s mountains like Geumjeongsan and be rewarded with stunning views. And if I want to hang out with friends, Jeonpo is full of cozy and creative coffee shops like butter vill. Living in Busan truly feels like being at home.

It’s a place of beauty, peace, and warmth—and I believe it’s a destination no traveler should miss when visiting Korea.
