Int'l tourism on record pace this year

Busan welcomed over one million foreign visitors in the first four months of 2025, the earliest the city has reached the one-million mark since official tracking began in 2014.
According to city officials, 1,061,284 foreign tourists visited between January and April, up 24% from the same period last year. Visitors from Taiwan led the way with 192,214 arrivals, followed by China, Japan, the United States and the Philippines. Significant increases were also seen from Vietnam, Hong Kong and India.
The surge is attributed to a combination of strategies, including the development of gourmet tourism, expanded cruise tourism and initiatives aimed at improving the tourist experience.
While these efforts have been record-setting, city officials plan on enhancing Busan's tourism further. These plans include strengthening global festival brands by promoting big-ticket events; developing marine tourism infrastructure; and deepening long-stay tourism content in partnership with other cities in the region.
The city aims to reach 3 million foreign tourists by the end of the year.
