Busan is Good in more ways than one

Busan has made significant strides in recent years, experiencing rapid development across multiple sectors. The city’s remarkable progress has burnished its national and international reputation.
The city continues to improve its livability. According to the Economist Intelligence Unit's Global Liveability Index 2024, Busan is ranked as Asia's sixth most livable city for the second consecutive year.
Additionally, the 2024 Child Well-Being Index, a study by Save the Children and the Institute of Social Welfare of Seoul National University, found that Busan children had the highest quality of life compared to children in other cities nationwide.
Busan’s innovative Deullak Nallak children’s cultural centers won the 2024 SDG City Awards, which honor exemplary urban sustainability programs in the Asia Pacific region. As a key component of Busan’s 15-minute city initiative, Deullak Nallak has been lauded for promoting sustainable urban development and social inclusivity. As of last year, Deullak Nallak centers have welcomed 1.2 million visitors and scored an 88% satisfaction rate.
The local job market is also improving. Busan’s youth employment rate rose from 43.6% in 2022 to 46.7% in 2024, the highest since records began. The city is also leveraging its aging workforce. Korea’s first eco-friendly, senior-friendly program, Our Neighborhood ESG Center, won the prestigious Green World Award in the carbon reduction category.
Busan’s appeal as a global tourist destination continues to grow. The city was featured in the New York Times article “5 Cities with Great Beaches” and included in Trip.com’s list of the top 100 global travel destinations in early 2024. Reflecting this recognition, Busan welcomed 2.93 million international tourists in 2024, the second-highest figure since 2016.
With steady progress in livability, employment, sustainability and tourism, Busan is solidifying its status as a dynamic global city.
