Ride the ‘English Waves’: Busan makes a splash in English education
Busan City has launched its new English learning material, “English Waves,” designed for young learners up to the second grade of elementary school.
Unlike traditional learning methods that focus on memorizing words and phrases, this curriculum adopts a Finnish play-based learning approach, encouraging children to immerse themselves in English naturally.
“English Waves” includes eight main storybooks and eight worksheets, divided into two stages based on the learner’s levels and ages. Level 1 is intended for kindergarteners, while Level 2 is for first and second-graders.
The textbooks feature Busan’s iconic attractions and cultural events, such as Haeundae Beach and the Busan Fireworks Festival. Through the familiar locations of the city, children can learn the language in a playful and practical manner.
Additionally, Busan’s mascot, Boogi, will accompany them on their learning journey, helping to keep them engaged with the ongoing stories and maintain their focus. Anyone interested can download the “English Waves” PDF textbooks and audio files from the website below.
