Mobile Alien Registration Card makes banking easier

International residents can now open bank accounts using only their Mobile Alien Registration Card.
The six participating banks include Shinhan, Hana, iM, BNK Busan, Jeonbuk and Jeju. Additional banks, such as Woori and Gwangju, will join the program in mid-April, followed by Nonghyup in May.
KB Kookmin and Industrial Bank of Korea will follow in June.
Currently, all banks require in-person visits to open an account, except for Jeonbuk Bank, which allows remote account opening.
Any legally registered international resident aged 14 or older can obtain a mobile ARC using their smartphones. To do so, they need to download the official app, “대한민국 모바일 신분증” (Korea Mobile Resident ID Card), and validate their identity by either using their ARC equipped with a chip card for smartphone access or by scanning a QR code.
