The list of promotional ambassadors for the World Expo 2030 has added another well-known name. Busan City appointed South Korean maestro Myung-whun Chung as its newest promotional ambassador for Busan’s bid to host the World Expo in 2030. Chung joins a star-studded roster that includes acclaimed actor Lee Jung-jae, virtual influencer Rozy, record-breaking South Korean boy band BTS, soprano Jo Sumi and YouTube mega star Baby Shark.

The ambassador commissioning ceremony, co-hosted by Busan City and the bid committee for World EXPO 2030, was held at 10:30 a.m. on July 25 in City Hall.

Mayor Park Heong-joon and Lee Kyung-ho, head of the secretariat for the Bid Committee for World Expo 2030, expressed their gratitude to Mr. Chung and presented him with a commissioned plaque.

Mr. Chung played a significant role as the conductor of the “Special Concert for the World Expo 2030” to boost the support to win the bid for the Expo. He said he is planning to encourage artists and people in the cultural sector and fully support the committee as one of the promotional ambassadors of the city’s Expo bid.

Mr. Chung had another commissioning ceremony as the first director of the Busan Opera House and the Busan International Art Center on July 1 at City Hall. He will play a pivotal role in overseeing future performances and concerts at the Busan Opera House at North Port and the Busan International Art Center at Busan Citizens Park, expected to open in 2025 and 2026, respectively.
