New high-speed rail service improves access between Busan, Seoul and Gangneung

Rail access between Busan, Seoul and Gangneung will improve significantly with the introduction of KTX-Eum. The high-speed train will begin service at Bujeon Station in Busanjin-gu District on Dec. 30.
KTX-Eum will connect Busan to northern regions via two lines. The Jungang Line runs from Bujeon Station to Cheongnyangni Station in Seoul, taking about 3 hours and 40 minutes, and operates 18 times a day (nine each way).
The train will also stop at Shinhaeundae Station eight times a day (four each way), and at Centum Station and Gijang Station twice a day (once each way). The number of trips to and from these stations will be adjusted based on passenger demand and feedback. The Jungang Line significantly improves access to Seoul for residents and visitors in eastern Busan, who no longer have to travel long distances to Busan Station.
The Donghae Line runs from Bujeon Station to Gangneung Station in Gangwon-do Province. The trip takes approximately 3 hours and 54 minutes and will operate six times daily (three each way).
The implementation of KTX-Eum on the Donghae Line completes the railway network on Korea’s east coast, with major stops at Busan, Taehwagang (Ulsan), Gyeongju, Pohang, Uljin, Donghae and Gangneung.
Launched in 2021, KTX-Eum is Korea’s first high-speed train developed entirely with domestic technology.
City officials expect the expanded KTX-Eum network to strengthen connectivity between Busan, the capital region and Gangwon-do, supporting tourism and providing residents with faster and more convenient intercity travel.
