International Wheelchair Fencing competitions are taking place in Busan

The International Wheelchair and Amputee Sports Federation is holding two major fencing competitions at the Commodore Hotel in Jung-gu district: The 2023 IWAS Wheelchair Fencing U17 and U23 World Championships from Aug. 30 to Sept. 1, and the 2023 IWAS Wheelchair Fencing World Cup from Sept. 2 to 5. An anticipated 300 athletes from 27 countries worldwide will take part.


During the competitions, athletes will earn ranking points to qualify for the 2024 Paralympic Games in Paris.


Among the participants, eight members of Korea’s national wheelchair fencing team are vying for the chance to compete at next year’s Paralympic Games. Overall, 14 Korean athletes are in contention this weekend.


The games will be accessible to all spectators either in-person free of charge or through live streaming via the official YouTube channel of the Korea Paralympic Committee. For more information, please visit the official website or the YouTube channel of the IWAS.
