Please introduce yourself to Daily Busan subscribers.

My name is Aulia, and I have been living in Busan since January 2023. I currently work at Yongsan University, and in addition to my work, I lead an outdoor group called Busan Gyeongsangnamdo Global. I am also a member of KOTESOL.

I really enjoy living in Busan. I see great potential for growth here, and I believe I will spend my 40s and 50s, and hopefully many more years, in this vibrant city.

Tell me more about KOTESOL.

KOTESOL is a professional organization for English teachers, aiming to support self-development. It connects educators with resources through publications, conferences, and workshops.

KOTESOL is divided into chapters, and each chapter holds its own events. For example, on Jan. 16, the Busan Gyeongnam Chapter will host a Zoom seminar. In March, we’re planning another seminar, both online and offline, with a social gathering.

We focus on professional development, helping members learn teaching techniques, explore current issues, and stay updated on trends. Members also benefit from reduced seminar fees and opportunities to present.

As a chapter officer, I support programs, help arrange seminars and ensure smooth operations.

What motivated you to join KOTESOL?

As an English teacher and non-native speaker, I strongly feel the need to keep learning and participating in seminars. Activities like giving presentations or joining panel discussions enhance skills and strengthen resumes.

From my observation, KOTESOL members often consist of the same group. While this shows dedication, I have high hopes for the Busan-Gyeongnam Chapter. Despite the region's large number of English teachers, both native and Korean, active membership remains small.

Our chapter works hard to encourage continuous learning and seminar participation. Educators must understand AI’s growing role and learn to integrate it into classrooms effectively.

Looking ahead, the concept of singularity in 2045 is fascinating yet intimidating. It’s a reminder to keep learning, expand networks, develop other skills and adapt to trends to stay relevant and prepared for the future.
