Busan is ramping up its efforts to attract international students and facilitate their settlement through the Study Busan 30K Project. Under the ethos of “Busan is good for international students,” city officials have announced a four-stage strategy to bring in 30,000 students by 2028.

The initiative provides support systems for international students, including free Korean language courses, career guidance and assistance in starting businesses.

The Busan Global City Foundation, a public diplomacy organization, will oversee key aspects of the Study Busan 30K Project. BGCF will open the Busan Hangul Institute and provide free language courses and cultural programs to international students.

BGCF will also offer career services to help international students secure employment in Korea. Getting a job can be a significant challenge for international students, who may not understand the ins and outs of the Korean job market. To overcome this lack of awareness, Busan will host job fairs, internships and seminars focused on employment and entrepreneurship.

In addition, city officials will hold “Study in Busan” fairs across Asia to promote Busan universities to prospective students. The first fairs will be held in Japan from April to May, followed by events in China, Mongolia and Central Asia. The Busan International Supporters, an official group of 40 international students, will share firsthand experiences and practical tips on living and studying in the city.

Finally, city officials will hold the Busan International Students Recruitment Meeting later this month to outline various support programs and regional visa policies to facilitate long-term settlement in the city. Representatives from local universities will be on hand to share their ideas and raise questions regarding these initiatives.
