[K-Words You Need to Know] eong-ddeu (엉뜨)

warm butt-001

Waiting at a bus station is far from pleasant on a piercing winter day. However, once you sit down, you might experience an unexpected warmth on your backside and wonder where it’s coming from.

This delightful surprise is a heated seat, which operates on the same principle as an electric heating pad, a must-have item for surviving the bitterly cold winter in Korea. Most Koreans prefer to buy cars equipped with heated seats, and their affection for this feature is reflected in its cute nickname, “eong-ddeu(엉뜨),” which roughly translates to “warm butt.” It keeps you warm and gently chases away the chill that creeps over your body.
