Eat Korean beef and save: Busan offers foreigners discounts on hanwoo meals

 

Busan City and the Hanwoo Board are offering foreign tourists and residents up to 30,000 won toward a hanwoo meal at four local restaurants through Nov. 6.

The Hanwoo Gourmet Tour, a pilot program that began Oct. 23, invites international visitors to try hanwoo, Korea’s premium native beef, at four restaurants named to the 2026 Taste of Busan list.

Hanwoo is prized for its tender texture and rich marbling. Each participating restaurant specializes in a different preparation, from ribeye steaks to bulgogi.

The participating restaurants are:

-Yukhwamok, Haeundae-gu: A grill restaurant offering a range of hanwoo cuts.

-Sogonggan, Haeundae-gu: A fine-dining restaurant specializing in hanwoo that pairs modern Korean cuisine with Western cooking techniques.

-Gwangalli Eonyang Bulgogi Busanjip, Suyeong-gu: Known for simple bulgogi built on quality beef and a sweet-and-savory sauce, served with side dishes made from locally grown produce.

-Gombo Sikdang, Sasang-gu: In business for more than 50 years, it serves grilled hanwoo as well as yukhoe, a Korean dish of seasoned raw beef.

To take part, diners post photos of their hanwoo dishes on their personal social media accounts, then scan the QR code at their table and complete a form, attaching a screenshot of the post. They then show the confirmation screen to restaurant staff to receive the discount.

Each foreign diner can receive up to 30,000 won off when purchasing a minimum order of one portion of beef per person.

Support is limited to 100 participants per restaurant, with up to 3 million won allocated to each venue.

The city said the program is designed to promote Busan’s restaurants, boost hanwoo consumption and raise the profile of local food culture through social media. It plans to review participation and results after the program ends to decide whether to expand it.

Busan City will promote the campaign through channels including Visit Busan and the Busan Global City Foundation.
