The Gamcheon Culture Village Festival, which is a chance for visitors to feel the novelty of Busan while strolling along the alleyways of the village, will be held from May 31 to June 2. Under the theme “The Memorable Alleys of Gamcheon Culture Village,” events will include an alley music concert, alley tour, alley fringe and others. A traditional Korean wedding ceremony for multicultural families is one of the attractions awaiting visitors.

This festival will have more experience-related events than performances. Visitors can get a chance to actually make Geumjeong Sanseong makgeolli (making makgeolli by floating the yeast), a traditional liquor of Busan.

There is also a makgeolli foot bath experience and traditional yeot (taffy) tasting, among other events. One can also make a makgeolli cocktail, and foods that go well with makgeolli will be showcased. On May 25, there is the “All You Can Drink makgeolli” event for just 10,000 won ($9.15).

A photo exhibition that captures the beautiful nature, customs and way of life in Korea, the United States and Japan will be held from May 16 to 23 at BS Busan Bank Art Gallery (near Gwangbok Road). The Korea-U.S.-Japan International Photo Exchange Exhibition, organized by the Busan International Photo Exchange Association, Tsushima Photo Association and the Southern California Photographers Association, will showcase 80 photos by 72 artists.

The Korean photographic works include 30 photographs depicting traditional hak chum (crane dance) performed on a flower meadow, pungmulnori (traditional music and dance performance), buchae chum (fan dance) and the lotus lantern festival of Samkwangsa Temple and showing autumn glory.

The U.S.'s photographic works include 20 photos depicting the Grand Canyon, Yosemite, street musicians and other Americana sights. Japan’s photographic works include 30 photos of regional festivals and scenery, including white cherry blossoms local to Japan.

An official of the Busan International Photo Exchange Association said, “Japan, Korea and the U.S. are close yet far, similar but different, and this exhibition will present the marvelous scenery and customs of the three countries.”

Architecture Exhibition: 30 Projects in Paris

This is a festival where one can get a glimpse of France’s uniquely liberal architectural culture. Under the title, “Exposition Architecture 30 Projets à Paris,” about 30 pieces of art will be on display at this exhibition, which shows the idiosyncratic architectural design and undertones of Paris. The exhibition is located in the connecting tunnel from Busan City Hall to its Metro line 1 station, and will be held from May 20 to 24. (051-465-0306)
