#23. 나즈골 안사리니아 Nazgol Ansarinia
이란 출신의 나즈골 안사라니아(1979- )는 테헤란 도시의 건축 환경, 무분별한 개발의 여파, 공공 공간과 사적 공간 사이의 구분, 그리고 파괴된 자리에 남아 있는 상처와 흔적들을 주제로 작업한다.
이란의 전통적인 주거 공간은 습도 유지를 위한 목적으로 수영장을 포함하지만, 근래에 이 수영장들은 빈부격차의 심화, 기후변화로 인한 물 부족 영향과 맞물리며 비어 있는 경우가 대다수이다. 작가는 비어 있는 수영장들을 과거 기억의 저장고로 바라보며, 이를 다시 채우려는 불가능해 보이는 미래를 상상하는 지역 공동체의 집단적 갈망을 투사한다. 지난 몇 년간 계속된 이란의 가뭄, 전력 부족 사태에 이어, 물은 향수를 불러일으키는 무정형 매개체에서 경제적 난관을 초래하는 자원 위기를 전적으로 보여주는 매개체가 되었다.
〈용해되는 물질들〉(2020)은 텅 빈 수영장을 느린 속도로 비추며 수영장이 마르기까지의 역사적 흐름을 추상적이면서도 건축적으로 묘사한다. 파란 방처럼 보이는 한 화면이 낡은 수영장의 균열을 비추며 해수면 상승에 따라 사라져가는 평야 지대와 가뭄에 의해 갈라지는 땅을 상기시킨다면, 다른 화면은 같은 장면을 비추고 있음에도 매 순간 깨지고 흔들리는 파도처럼 예측 불가능하며 충족 불가능한 현재의 불안한 삶을 연상시킨다.

Traditionally, in Iran, swimming pools were common in residential spaces, primarily for the purposes of maintaining humidity, but in recent times many of these pools remain empty due to a combination of widening wealth disparities and water scarcity caused by climate change. Ansarinia sees these empty swimming pools as repositories of past memories, which also project the collective desires of local communities, imagining an impossible future in which they might be filled once again. In the past few years, Iran has faced continuing droughts and power shortages, transforming water from an amorphous element that once evoked nostalgia into a reminder of resource crisis and economic hardship.
Dissolving Substances (2020), captures the slow weathering of an empty swimming pool, depicting the progression of the pool drying out in an abstract yet architectural way. One channel features the cracked old pool, which resembles a kind of blue room and evokes both receding plains due to rising sea levels and the parched earth of lands affected by drought, while the other evokes unpredictability and the unfulfilled, anxious nature of life, as it simulates the continuous ebb and flow of waves.
